Creating a Sense of Calm Amid Chaos

Living in a state of chaos and high stress can be incredibly challenging. For years, I found myself trapped in a whirlwind of turmoil due to abusive custody rulings that required me to shuttle between different people's homes every week. It was a relentless cycle of instability, leaving me yearning for a sense of peace and tranquility that seemed out of reach. However, amidst the chaos, I discovered small rituals and practices that helped me carve out moments of calm amidst the storm.



One of the most transformative tools in my journey towards finding inner peace was the simple act of taking a shower or bath. Stepping into the warm embrace of water, I felt the weight of the world melt away, if only for a moment. To enhance this experience, I incorporated lavender-flavored bath products into my routine. Lavender, known for its soothing properties, enveloped me in a sense of serenity, easing the tension that had become my constant companion. Try this Dead Sea soak or Epsom salts in your bath. I use my favorite shampoo and conditioner and make sure that the bottle caps have pumps for ease of dispense.



Investing in bath accessories such as bath headrests and across-the-bathtub shelves such as this one or this one added an extra layer of luxury to my bathing ritual. With a place to rest my head and a shelf to hold my drink of choice, candles, or books, my bath became a sanctuary where I could escape the chaos outside and reconnect with myself.

Candles became another staple in my quest for calm. The gentle flicker of candlelight cast a warm glow over the room, creating a tranquil ambiance that eased my troubled mind. Paired with a fluffy towel or robe, my post-bath ritual became a moment of indulgence, a chance to pamper myself and nurture my soul.


Once a week I would incorporate teeth whitening strips into my routine that added a touch of brightness to my smile, boosting my confidence and reminding me of the power of small, tangible improvements. Doing it during the shower or bath can help with the habit and save time.


Many mornings it was difficult to get myself going and taking a shower or a bath seemed like a gargantuan task, so instead I focused on a smaller routine. To start, I put music on using this cute little waterproof speaker, and that got me some energy to do my morning routine of brushing my teeth and washing my face. Some people prefer the electronic toothbrush but I still prefer the simple manual toothbrush. The familiar rituals of self-care, from cleansing to toning to moisturizing, became anchors in my day, grounding me in the present moment and setting the tone for the hours ahead. Disposable face sponges and makeup wipes simplified my skincare routine, eliminating the need for elaborate rituals that only added to my stress. Hate washing your face because of water dripping down your hands or your hair getting wet? I hate it too but I gotchu! Use these!



After my bath, I slip into fluffy slippers and comfy loungewear or PJs depending on my mood, embracing the comfort of soft fabrics against my skin. For those days when I needed a little extra motivation, I opted for athletic wear, ready to tackle a low-impact workout with sweat wristbands and dumbbells at hand.


Scrunchies, clips, and hairbands became my go-to accessories for keeping my hair out of my face as I moved through my day. And when I needed to clear my mind, a pair of sneakers awaited me, ready to carry me on a walk or run through the neighborhood. I know for some of us going out is difficult or not possible so walking around our rooms or apartments is also an option or using this nifty walking pad is helpful.


Incorporating these simple rituals into my daily routine transformed my relationship with chaos and stress. Instead of feeling overwhelmed by the tumultuous circumstances of my life, I found solace in the small moments of calm I cultivated each day. By prioritizing self-care and embracing rituals that nourished my body and soul, I reclaimed a sense of peace and tranquility that had eluded me for so long.

Whether it's a luxurious bath, a soothing skincare routine, or a brisk walk in nature, find what brings you peace and make it a priority in your daily life.
